Last night was our Open House at school. I love dressing up as various characters. One of my favorite for several years has been Mother Goose. I was saddened to find out last night that a lot of the children don’t even know who Mother Goose is and can’t recite one of the rhymes! I know I’m getting older – but come on!!!

As much as that saddens me I am more saddened by the lack of not knowing God’s word or believing that it is inspired. The Barna Group has studied the Bible’s role and influence for over 30 years. In 2016, David Kinnaman, president of Barna, said that their research at that time showed, “the data is trending toward Bible skepticism. With each passing year, the percent of Americans who believe that the Bible is ‘just another book written by men’ increases. So too do the perceptions that the Bible is actually harmful and that people who live by its principles are religious extremists.” (www.barna.com/research/the-bible-in-america)

The research was not all bad news; most Americans believe it has been influential on humanity more than any other text. Nearly half read the Scriptures at least once a month.

Let’s hold fast to the belief that the Bible is the Word of God. It is inspired. Don’t let it become like Mother Goose where we can’t recall the message. “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
