Today is my mother-in-law’s birthday. She is very special to me and I am so thankful for her and the example she sets. I couldn’t help but think of the beautiful story of Ruth. Ruth decides to go with Naomi, her mother-in-law, to Naomi’s homeland. Both of their husbands have died and there is a famine in the land. Naomi believes that Ruth should go to her own family. But, Ruth will have nothing to do with it, “Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you; for wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried…” Ruth 1:16-17
I love this verse for the love it represents between in-laws but I also see in it the love we should have toward our God. We need to be near Him. We should seek to be in his presence. He should be our God, our one and only. And ultimately, one day, to die and live with Him in eternity.
