The Tongue

I am not a ranting person. At least I try my best not to do that. But, today this is on my mind. It seems that everywhere we turn there is negativity. It rules the airways, our jobs, churches, homes, and our tweets.

The tongue is displayed beautifully in the book of James. James does not mess around with what damage the tongue can do. He describes it as “a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body.” One word can change everyone’s idea of the reality that is going on. We don’t take the time to see where these statements come from or if there is even any merit to any of it.

For those of us who claim to be God followers, we had better keep our tongues in check. James goes on to say in that same chapter that Godly wisdom is “first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”

I want these things coming from my mouth. I pray that we all would be kinder and gentler in every word that we speak.
