Yesterday we had a storm blow through. This caused a major power outage with most of the town being without electricity for over 12 hours. When this happens, it is always a reminder to me how much we depend on electricity. I kept walking around the house saying, “Well, I think I’ll do this…oops can’t – no electricity!” Life was pretty much slowed down for several hours.
As Christians, we sometimes get discouraged. Our world stops. Problems arise. We are stagnant, not really good to anyone. Could it be that we have had a “power outage?” Do we try to solve our problems alone? Do we let things get so out of hand we forget to pray and talk to everyone else?
When Jesus was preparing to die he talked to his disciples about how to stay “charged.” In John 14-16 he leaves them instruction and encouragement by telling them to abide in Him. He wants them to stay connected. In fact, he tells them that the Comforter will be with them. When we repent and are baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, we too receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38) If we remain in Him, our power will never go out!
