Mend

Mend

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” – Ezekiel 36:26

Do you remember the Bee Gees’ song “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?” Written in the early 1970s, those haunting lyrics came from a deeply personal place. The brothers had split apart their group, and the fractures ran deep. When they reunited to write this song, they were grappling with a profound question: How do you move forward when trust has been broken and hearts have been wounded?

We’ve all felt that ache, haven’t we? Loss comes in countless forms—relationships that crumble, dreams that die, loved ones who leave. And in our pain, we scramble to heal ourselves. We stay busy. We throw ourselves into new pursuits. We try to fill the empty spaces with anything that might ease the hurt.

But our hearts are fragile, and God knows this intimately.

In Ezekiel 36:26, God makes an extraordinary promise to His people: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you.” These words were spoken to the Israelites about what was coming—a future hope that would transform everything.

That promise is ours today when we accept Jesus as Lord. We don’t receive a patched-up version of our old heart. We receive a new one. God’s Spirit doesn’t just repair what’s broken; He transforms us completely from the inside out.

We don’t have to keep asking, “Why can’t I heal? Why can’t I move past this?” Because the relationship God offers never ends. His love doesn’t fracture. His presence doesn’t abandon us when things get hard.

The Bee Gees asked how to mend a broken heart. God’s answer is beautifully simple: Give it to Me.

Have you given your heart to God so that He can mend it?
