Today’s blog is a prompt from the 5-Minute Friday Writing group. The prompt was “fight.”
If you’re as old as me, you have to remember this saying from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons. It seems every time Bugs and old Yosemite Sam got together, there was an argument. It seems Bugs had issues with a lot of characters. Humm… that’s a topic within itself!
The famous saying still rings in my head, “Them’s Fighting words.” I’m sure you know what would happen next. You see……
OUR words matter.
*Words can…..cut deep.
*Words can…..start wars.
*Words can…..divide, destroy, and shape a person’s destiny.
“Fighting words” come from a tongue that’s not contained. The book of James talks about the tongue in chapter 3. It is described as a bit in a horse’s mouth. That tiny piece of metal controls the direction of this strong animal. It is also described as a tiny spark that can set a whole forest on fire.
But,
*We don’t have to speak “fighting words” because…
*Words can…..bring healing.
*Words can…..bring peace.
*Words can…..shape the course of your life and the life of others.
What words will you speak today?

To be just you you’re meant to be,
you must be first who you am,
and as the whole wide world tells me,
I’m like Yosemite Sam,
bewhiskered and contentious,
with style of my own choosing
that’s clearly not infectious,
else others would be using
the sharply rustic dialect
that leaves wife sometimes puzzled
and praying that God might direct
that angels get me muzzled
‘fore fightin’ words become disaster
when I am greeting our pastor.

yep, we can always slow down and choose which words to use, BEFORE we use them. Of course they proceed from the thoughts in our heart though, so it is heart surgery we need, little by little.
