Dedicate

Joshua has always been one of my favorite Bible characters. Chosen by God to follow in the footsteps of Moses, Joshua leads the Israelites into the land of Canaan. Can you even imagine trying to fill those shoes? But Joshua believed in God. He trusted what he told him. “No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.” Joshua 1:5 Joshua stayed true in his commitment to God and God made him into an outstanding leader.

Near the end of his life, Joshua calls all the tribes of Israel to meet. He goes through what all God has done for them. He reminds them to fear the Lord and serve him. They were to put away all the idols from their ancestors.

He then gives them a choice. Basically, who will you serve? Who will you dedicate your life to?

Then he follows this question with this declaration, “…But as for me and my family (house),we will serve the Lord.”

The picture above has hung in our home for over 20 years. It is a constant reminder of whose I am and to who my life should be dedicated. The words still speak to me as I hear Joshua tell the children of Israel. Remember what God has done for you. Remember to listen and obey His voice.

Sometimes I don’t make good decisions, or I let life get in the way. But I know God’s grace is bigger than I am. I will continue to choose Him above all things.

What have you dedicated your life to?
