Escape

This week I have been blessed with a trip to the beach-ESCAPE!

Sometimes when I hear the word escape, my mind goes to……

Breaking out of jail (I watch too many crime stories)

Running from a tiger (maybe a snake, in my case)

            The movie “Escape from Alcatraz”

Ok, Ok. I’ve let my imagination get the best of me.

No, this week’s Escape is not about me running from anything but running to something. This is escape was about rest and quiet. A time to regroup, to laugh, to breathe the salt air, eat delicious seafood, and catch up on my reading.

And in this Escape God always shows up. In the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, the dolphins leaping in the air, the majesty of the ocean, your beach neighbors who know people you know, meeting other family members, how His word speaks just to me in my daily devotional, in laughter as I attempt to drive a golf cart on a busy road, or experience what “The Birds” movie might have been like on a dolphin cruise (another story).

Christ knew what this kind of Escape was. There are several scriptures where it says He withdrew from the crowd. Most of these were because He needed that time with His Father. The night before they crucified him, He escaped to a quiet place to pray. Christ knew that He too constantly needed that time where he Escaped to find where His strength came from.

We all need that. My sweet niece and sister-in-law blessed me this week. We can’t always Escape to a beautiful place. But, we look for places. A closet, a park, a swing, (as a mother) a bath, in a garden, a walking trail,……you add one. Find your Escape where you can run to God, the source of everything.

Today’s prompt is from The Five-Minute Friday writing group.

  1. Escape is what I always planned
when I was a long rifleman.
You had to have a thought in hand
to bug out (yeah, if you can!)
    past executing on the target
who likely had a lot of mates,
and it was hard not to forget
that it would be the worst of fates
to be caught, not quickly killed,
to meet the litte peoples’ fury.
Their justice would be there fulfilled
with no need for judge nor jury,
and so it served me very well
to find a route, and run like hell.

  2. I miss living near the beach in California , especially when Dollar Tree had beautiful beach decor. But somehow Arizona and beach decor just seemed out of place. Lol!
I think I miss most are church baptisms as those always blessed me and what a witness to the folks on the beach.

  4. I couldn’t agree more with your sentiments about finding an escape and the significance of connecting with nature and God. It’s beautiful how you’ve highlighted the importance of finding moments of quiet, reflection, and connection amidst the chaos of our daily lives. Even Jesus sought solitude to recharge and reconnect with the Father. Your words are a gentle reminder that everyone, irrespective of their roles or responsibilities, needs that sacred space or moment of “escape” to rejuvenate and reconnect. I’m glad you had such a refreshing time at the beach, and I hope you continue to find those special moments of escape wherever you are. Thank you for sharing your reflections and inspiring us to find our own escapes.
