Reflections from Ladies’ Day bring to mind Mother’s Day

This past Saturday, I had the joy of speaking at the Ladies’ Day at Oliver Creek church. The room was filled with familiar faces and dear friends, many of whom knew my mother and father when they lived in this area. There’s something particularly special about sharing God’s word in a place where your family’s memory still lingers.

My talk centered on “The Song in Our Heart”—how the melody of faith carries us through life’s highs and lows. I found myself sharing stories about my mother and her unwavering faith, which kept a song in her heart even during difficult seasons. Looking out at the audience and seeing women who knew her, who remembered her smile and her spirit, made those stories come alive in a way I hadn’t anticipated.

Gertie also blessed us with her wonderful act, bringing laughter and light to our gathering. There’s nothing quite like the gift of joy shared among sisters in Christ!

As Mother’s Day approaches this weekend, I’m reminded that the songs our mothers sang –literally and figuratively – continue to echo in our hearts long after they’re gone. My mother’s legacy lives on not just in me but also in the community she touched during her time here.

What songs did your mother plant in your heart? What melodies of faith are you passing down to the next generation? These are the questions I’m pondering as we honor the women who shaped us and the God who composed the original song of love in all our hearts.
