Satisfied

We begin our first 2025 Five-Minute Friday prompt with the word “satisfied.”

As I gaze outside my front door on this snowy day, a sense of satisfaction washes over me. Satisfaction, after all, is about feeling content.

Hold on! You’re probably wondering how anyone can feel satisfied when a blanket of snow is on the ground, and it’s freezing outside.

Because I’m still, a peaceful hush envelops the atmosphere on a snowy day. People aren’t bustling about. Schools and businesses are closed. We’ve stopped for a while. The ground is wrapped in a soft, white blanket.

I reflect on the verse, “Be still and know that I am God.” In some translations, this is expressed as “cease striving.”

Other things happen in our lives, and we become still over things that don’t make us feel satisfied. It might be sickness. Loss of a job or a loved one.

But consider this for a minute. When life challenges us, we pause and take a moment. We use that time to look up. As the snowflakes gently descend today, I’m reminded that God is in control. He desires that we find satisfaction in Him, regardless of the chaos in the world around us.

(Addendum: Life does not stop in some moments of stillness. My heart and thanks go out to our police, firefighters, emergency workers, hospital staff, road crews, and others I’m forgetting!)
